Today marks the birthday of Aaliyah Dana Haughton, who would have just turned 31 if she hadn’t have lost her life in a tragic plane accident back in 2001.

I (like many others) remember when Aaliyah died quite vividly. That day in summer 2001 I was at the Notting Hill Carnival putting up posters for Def Jam when I first heard the news break. Don’t know what thoughts passed through my mind… But I know that the ΛΛLIYΛH album was the soundtrack to the rest of the year.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AALIYAH, we still miss you and cherish your music.

aaliyahrevisited_frontCreated in memory of someone we grew up listening to, an idle idea formed on a sofa last summer turned into a solid musical tribute to Baby Girl featuring a stellar selection of today’s soulful artists.

Thousands of you downloaded our Aaliyah Revisited tribute EP, which features ten of today’s rising musical stars all influenced by Aaliyah and touched by her musical legacy.  Sy Smith, Marsha Ambrosius, Tawiah, Baby Sol, Jesse Boykins III, Jonas, Vula, Black Einstein, Nikko Gray and AFTA-1 each contributed their own original reinterpretations of their favourite Aaliyah songs.
