Driis, the musical alter-ego of A-List actor Idris Elba (The Wire, Obsessed, American Gangster and the upcoming Marvel blockbuster Thor), releases High Class Problems [EP] on Monday 8th February 2010 via his own label, Hevlar Recordings.
“It’s a well-trodden road, the whole actors wanting to do music thing,” Driis admits, “but hopefully the passion and heart I’ve put into the release will be clear for all to see, and the music will be judged solely on its merit.”
Leading single “Private Garden” stars 9th Wonder on production and “reveals Driis’ softer side as he attempts to break down the barriers of a broken heart”, while “Please Be True” showcases his singing over a reggae tinged Pete Rock production on this EP of “hip hop laced soul”.
Will his music garner as much respect as his acting has? Listen to the following snippets from the EP and decide…

This is sounding real promising! I would have settled for a safe album with some generic tunes, but this is sounding real good! Driis just may be the surprise of 2010!
I’m agreeing with the person above me. Some crazy joints are dropping this year. Sade, Erykah, Corinne, this. Mmm mmm mmm! Loving it!
I’m looking forward to this! The music thats been previewed so far sounds better than actual recording artists. It Seems 2010 may be the year real music comes back….
