Don’t worry, this isn’t a boring (but great) power ballad like “Nothing Compares 2 You” so calm down. In fact, it’s a reggae song. Don’t be surprised – Sinéad O’Connor has been a reggae lover for a while.
From touring with world-famous producers Sly & Robbie, releasing a reggae album in 2005 titled Throw Down Your Arms [where she covered the likes of Buju Banton, Burning Spear, The Abyssinians and Peter Tosh], the singer also made a surprise guest appearance at one of “Mr. Loverman, Shabba” Ranks’ party back in the early ’90s.
This one here is a lovers rock/reggae that will make your dad grab mum for a good, old-fashioned dance. Easy now, my selector-tor-tor-tor.
Sinead O’Connor – “How About I Be Me”:
As you know, this is reggae, so there are other songs on the rhythm track. “Club Dance Riddim” also features reggae legend Nadine Sutherland, British Lovers Rock queens Carroll Thompson and Janet Kay among others.
“Club Dance Riddim”:
Single available to purchase here, whilst Sinead’s forthcoming album How About I Be Me (And You Be You)? is due for release on 20th February 2012 through One Little Indian records.
