Eclectic German collective Jazzanova and British Hip Hop/jazz duo The Herbaliser will be joining together for the very first time for a double headliner show at London’s KOKO on Saturday, June 16th. Presented by Soundcrash, the event will welcome the combined sounds of Funk, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Soul from both groups on a night celebrating music at its best – and SoulCulture has a pair of tickets up for grabs for one lucky reader!
Berlin-hailing Jazz collective Jazzanova, consisting of Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Roskow Kretschmann, Stefan Leisering, and Axel Reinemer, have been creating music since forming as a group in 1995. Combining their interests in Jazz and Funk, the collective reached the peak of their stardom on the underground circuit in the late ’90s, leading to the release of their debut album In Between in 2002.
Following their sophomore album Of All The Things, which entered the top 20 in the Billboard Jazz album charts, the group’s third studio album Funkhaus Studio Sessions was released in May this year.
The performance will be the first of many as the year goes on for jazz/rap duo The Herbaliser, formed in the early ’90s by West Londoners DJ Ollie Teeba and guitar/bass player Jake Wherry, with their new album There Were Seven expected in September.
Starting off in music at a young age, the two combined their shared passion for Jazz, Hip-Hop and Funk to create their debut album Remedies in 1995. Following the success of the project, blending Teeba’s sampling skills with Wherry’s instrumental know how, the duo also worked with a range of rappers including the UK’s Blade and Roots Manuva on their 1999 album Very Mercenary and the US’ Jean Grae on their 2008 album Session One.
Also on the line-up is singer and fellow musician Paul Randolph, who is responsible for the vocals on Jazzanova’s latest album, as well as an appearance from British DJ, songwriter and producer Scrimshire, whilst a selection of Soundcrash DJs will also provide music throughout the night.
Tickets are priced from £12.50 in advance – details below – but SoulCulture also have a free pair of tickets up for grabs. For your chance to win them, simply fill out this form:
