Emmy Awards 2012: The Nominations | TV News

Leke Sanusi July 21, 2012 Awards, Film & TV, TV Comments

An annual television production award celebrating the very best of the American TV industry – the Oscars of TV; the television equivalent of the Grammys – the 2012 Emmy Awards will be held on September 23, hosted by TV funny-man Jimmy Kimmel; just one of many recently announced nominees for this year’s gala event.

The idiot box has enjoyed an excellent few years; the quality of programming taken to new heights by intelligent, ground-breaking shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men, as well as a host of other outstanding productions such as Boardwalk Empire, Girls and Louie.

This year, FX newcomer, American Horror Story, racks up the most nominations, alongside Emmy ever-present - Mad Men. Both contenders notched a hefty 17 nominations, leading the likes of Downton Abbey (16), History Channel mini-series Hatfields & McCoys (16) and HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn.
