Fresh on the heels of her return to the stage after giving birth to her first child, Beyoncé Knowles will also be returning to the big screen soon — well, at least her voice will. Deadline reports that the multitalented singer and actress has joined the cast of 20th Century Fox’s new animated, 3D film, Epic.

Knowles, who will voice a character named “Queen Tara,” joins a star-studded cast consisting of Colin Ferrell, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Knoxville and more in the film described as “a battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and evil. When a teenaged girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters to save that world, which in turn saves the real world.” The film is directed by Chris Wedge (Ice Age).

Epic was developed under the title Leafmen, which was based on William Joyce‘s novel The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. While the Leafmen plot involved a colony of bugs who summoned the heroic Leafmen to help them rid an old woman’s garden of an evil Spider Queen, it is unclear what role Knowles’ “Queen Tara” will play in the new film.

Epic will be released May 24, 2013.
