Community fans might just be the biggest geeks in the world. Still, they’re nowhere near as geeky as the creators of Community.
The incredible comedy show is one of the best things on TV, and what makes it so great is that it’s comfortable in its own nerdy skin. The show’s culture of nerd fandom is what elevates it to such levels of quality, geeking out over all things geeky; be it comics or video games. It even indulges in over intelligence, getting extra meta-meta from time to time.
While it may come as a major surprise to many to discover that Community producers, Joe and Anthony Russo, have signed on the dotted line to direct the sequel to Marvel’s Captain America, a little perspective and some time taken to let the announcement sink in may just cast the decision in a more positive and ingenious light. After all, the fanboys of Community should know all about their superheroes.
The Russos may differ greatly from previous Marvel directors, but, judging by Community, they should bring a freshness and intelligence to the movie. If they can translate the originality and passion of their hit show to Captain America 2, then they may just surprise everyone.
We’ll have to wait and see.
