With Peter Travis‘ Dredd 3D gearing up for its much-awaited big screen release, a prequel for the film in the form of a digital comic has been unveiled.
The Judge Dredd movie tie-in was previewed on Comic Book Resources alongside the unveiling of the comic’s Greg Staples-painted cover (seen above).
Digital Spy reports that the comic will feature the first appearance of Dredd 3D villain Ma-Ma, played on the silver screen by Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey.
The prequel comic is also set to feature a story penned by 2000 AD editor Matt Smith, a move endorsed by Dredd co-creator John Wagner and screenwriter Alex Garland.
The comic is to be illustrated by Henry Flint, who also had one of the cell blocks in Travis’ upcoming Dredd 3D named in his honour.
Dredd 3D will be released on September 7 in the UK and September 21 in the US.
