Peter Travis‘ Dredd reboot is shaping up nicely. The movie’s teasers, trailers, sneaks and peeks have been met warmly, impressing even the staunchest of fanboys.
Dredd is quietly building up some strong buzz, garnering the sort of attention that is so difficult to come by when vying with bigger projects like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spiderman.
Taking on the fanatics of ComicCon, the film played to a very, very warm reception, pleasantly surprising many and delighting all.
Fans were taken aback by the movie’s edgy quality, pleased by it’s goriness and dark aesthetic. A reboot of the Judge Dredd franchise, the film offers a more stark take on Danny Cannon’s 1995 film starring Sylvester Stallone.
Based on the British sci-fi comic strips 2000 AD created by Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner, Dredd zooms in on a futuristic dystopian America riddled with crime and corruption. The film follows Judge Dredd, the sprawling Mega City One’s most-feared urban cop, as he fights to take down powerful drug lord Ma-Ma and her dangerous gang of killers, prostitues and “Slo-Mo” addicts.
Starring Karl Urban as the film’s titular, imperious Judge, The Wackness‘ Olivia Thirlby, and Game of Thrones anti-heroine Lena Headey, Dredd hits cinemas September 7th.
