Exactly one month to go till The Dark Knight Rises premieres on the big screen, the promotional drive for the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy shifts into gear, with Nokia unveiling a brand new TDKR trailer to set the heart racing and the adrenaline pumping.
Typically dark and imbued with an ominous, apocalyptic tone, the extended preview is made all the more cinematic and moving by Hans Zimmer’s tribal, operatic score; ratcheting up the tension, and evoking a sense of drama and lurking danger. Comic-book fans familiar with DC’s Knightfall story arc, will be left wondering: is this the end for Bruce Wayne? Does Bane break the Bat?
Described as The Godfather of super-hero movies, the success and popularity of The Dark Knight has raised expectations for TDKR. So far, the few images we’ve been privy to hint at a film of similar , if not, superior quality; boasting a world class cast that includes Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard and Liam Neeson, not to mention a selection of iconic DC heroes and villains central to the world of Gotham City.
The Dark Knight Rises exudes the grandeur, scale, and cinematic scope of epic Hollywood movies past. It mirrors the raw, sharp and beautiful storytelling sensibilities of the classics; reminiscent of Roman Polansk’s work on Chinatown, or Michael Mann’s Heat, only with a super-hero twist.
Come 20 July, the Dark Knight may not be the only one rising. Expect his audiences to do the same, responding to his heroics with a standing ovation.
