The production of James Mangold’s The Wolverine is well underway, with several images and some cool film footage recently released.
Starring Hugh Jackman, The Wolverine serves as a sequel to the 2009 blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie is an adaptation of Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s 1982 limited comic book series, following the tempestuous mutant superhero on a self-reflective trip to Japan, where he masters the martial arts of the Samurai.
With Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler and Black Swan auteur Darren Aronofsky attached to the film for many months, the project undertook a change of direction when Mangold signed on to direct. Combining Mangold’s sensitive, dramatic sensibilities, and eye for gripping action sequences with the gifts of talented writers like Christopher McQuarrie and Mark Bomback, much is expected of The Wolverine.
The film features a selection of top Japanese actors including Hiroyuki Sanada and Brian Tee. The Wolverine also stars Asian-American actor Will Yun Lee.
The Wolverine is released on 26 July 2013. If you just can’t wait that long, take a peek at some pictures fresh off the film’s set after the jump.
