After premiering a 30-second teaser back in May, Spike Lee releases the full-length trailer for Red Hook Summer, the coming-of-age tale about a young man from Atlanta named Flik who spends an eventful summer in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook with his preacher grandfather.
While many have been calling Red Hook Summer a sequel to Lee’s 1989 classic Do The Right Thing, the director insists that it isn’t; instead, it’s more of a companion piece furthering Lee’s penchant for stories revolving around his home borough. He does reprise his “Mookie” role from 1989, though, updating audiences on how the character progressed from that hot summer more than 20 years ago.
Shot in a mere 19 days, Red Hook Summer stars Clarke Peters, Nate Parker, Jules Brown, Thomas Jefferson Byrd and James Ransome.
The film hits US theaters August 10th.
