It’s hard to believe Zack Snyder’s feature film adaptation of Frank Miller’s comic book 300 is 6 years old already. I guess it’s because I’ve been watching Spartacus in the meantime to fill that desire I had for more, but no longer will fans have to wait as this year sees the release of 300: Rise of an Empire, the prequel to the highly influential film (as far as its visual style goes).

Now the official Facebook page has released the logo for the film, and while it may not be enough to satisfy those thirsty for blood among us, it gives us a little more to hold onto until its release later this year.

Those hoping for a return of Leonidas (Gerard Butler) will likely be disappointed, as the film focuses on Xerxes, the King of Persia (played once again by Rodrigo Santoro) as he takes on the Greek general Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton), and will also provide a little more background on the ruler. While little else has been revealed, we do know that the film also stars Eva Green, Callan Mulvey, Lena Headey and Jack O’Connell, best known for his role as Cook in Skins. Noam Murro is directing the prequel, and Zack Snyder returns as a producer due to being busy at work on the Superman reboot Man of Steel.
