Spike Lee’s remake of critically acclaimed South Korean thriller Oldboy has finally been given a release date. Deadline reports that the film, which was in talks since 2008, will be released to US cinemas on October 11th, 2013.

The original, directed by Park Chan-wook, followed the story of a man locked a hotel room for 15 years without any explanation, only to then be told after his release that he must find his captor within 5 days. Starring Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Brolin as the main character, the upcoming adaption appears to be sticking to the source material faithfully, as the plot has been kept as well as the extreme violence; something which Olsen recently reassured fans about in a recent DigitalSpy interview.

More details on the remake here and here.
