Following the long awaited release of the lost episode of Dexter’s Laboratory, Cartoon Network have announced that The Powerpuff Girls are set to return to screens for the first time in 8 years.

Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup will feature in a brand new special later this year that will give them and the rest of Townville’s inhabitants a “redesigned and reimagined” look in CG, and will introduce a new character named Fibonacci Sequins, voiced by the legendary Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.

Though the switch to CG is a little worrying considering how neglected standard 2D animation is these days in comparison, as long as creator Craig McCracken is involved it’ll turn out fine. Hopefully all the beloved secondary characters such as Mojo Jojo, The Mayor (and Miss Sarah Bellum), The Amoeba Boys, and the talking dog get some screen-time.
