Frank Sinatra had The Rat Pack. Ben Stiller has The Frat Pack.
Where one group crooned, serenaded and trilled the swinging nights away in swanky clubs, clad in black tuxedos and expensive shoes; the other tickles packed out cinemas to laugh out loud hysterics with acerbic, slapstick, and fraternal humour.
Sinatra and Davis Junior sung their ways into the history books with a glass of whiskey in one hand, and a mic in the other. Stiller, Vaughn and the Wilson brothers wrench guttural laughs from the stomachs of their audiences with silly escapades and hilarious exchanges.
Though Smoky and Old Blue Eyes cemented their places in history a long time ago, The Frat Pack is still busy at work, crafting a legacy of sorts. Having collaborated on movies like Old School, Zoolander and Anchorman, the star studded fraternity of comedians have already struck their fair share of comedy gold.
Welcoming new inductees Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade, several members of the goofy crew reunite in Akiva Schaffer‘s The Watch, written by Jared Stern and the superb tag team Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (the genius, himself) – the pens behind Superbad and Pineapple Express.
The potentially brilliant comedy traces the civic heroics of four suburban fathers, as they form a neighbourhood watch group to break away from the boredom of their lives, only to find themselves up against an alien invasion as Earth’s last hope.
Silly, fun, fantastical, The Watch could very well be fantastic – and another number 1 hit for the Frat Pack.
