Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson has landed a multi-episode arc on season 2 of NBC’s Broadway drama Smash, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hudson will play a Tony Award-winning Broadway star named Veronica Moore who has an unspecified impact on the lives of characters Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty).

“We’re thrilled to have Jennifer Hudson coming to Smash,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt. “Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it.”

Smash is described on the show’s website as “a musical drama that celebrates the beauty and heartbreak of the Broadway theater as it follows a cross section of dreamers and schemers who all have one common desire — to be a ‘Smash.’”

“I have no doubt Jennifer will continue to deliver even more inspiration to the audience responsible for giving us a second season on NBC,” said executive producer Steven Spielberg. “It’s wonderful to be reunited with her at DreamWorks Television and NBC.”

The series stars McPhee, Hilty, Debra Messing, Christian Borle and Anjelica Huston.
