Kendrick Lamar visits ’106 & Park’ | TV Catch-Up

Max-El August 4, 2012 TV Comments

Kendrick Lamar dropped by 106 & Park Friday to hand-deliver the video for “Swimming Pools (Drank),” but also took a moment to bless Terrence and Rocsi with a few gifts and to reflect on how it feels to be the West Coast’s next big thing, what he’s learned from Dr. Dre and more.

When it comes to filling the very big shoes of Snoop Dogg, The Game and others before him who’ve been labeled the face of the West Coast rap scene, K-Dot says that while the praise is flattering, his work is far from done.

“I’m so honored and privileged but at the same time I know that the words can only as far as I let ‘em,” he said. “I gotta put that grind and that work ethic in.”

“Work ethic” is one of the main things he’s picked up from working alongside Dr. Dre, who he says lead both through advice and by example.

“His main thing is always keep the passion in the music and in what I’m doin’,” the MC reveals. “It inspires me to see a person with these accolades, awards, fortune, fame still go as hard as he does in the studio. That only inspires me to continue that.”

Check out the interview below. K-Dot’s debut major label set good kid, m.A.A.d. city drops October 2nd.
