This weekend, VH1 series Behind The Music delves into the experiences of R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo for their latest episode, touching on his call from the legend Michael Jackson and performing at the Apollo in Harlem, New York among other events in his musical journey.
With four albums under his belt along with a string of hits, including “So Sick,” “Sexy Love,” “Because of You,” “Miss Independent,” “Closer” and more, the Arkansas-born musician also has a healthy list of songwriting credits to his name, having penned for the likes of Mario, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Teedra Moses and Leona Lewis among many.
As he preps for his tentative November-slated release for upcoming fifth album, R.E.D, his first release via Motown Records, Ne-Yo discusses his journey from initial rejection by the industry to becoming one of music’s top hitmakers.
Record executive L.A. Reid, Smokey Robinson, his mother, sister, and girlfriend Monyetta Shaw all feature in the programme, as Ne-Yo also speaks on falling in love and the perks of fame.
The full episode airs on VHI at 9pm on Sunday, September 23rd – in the meantime, have a peep at some excerpts from the show below.
