You get those occasions when a trailer is just so awesome, its awesomeness need not be explained; particularly as no amount of words can capture, distill or sum up the awe it inspires. The newly released trailer for the Wachowski Brothers‘ Cloud Atlas is one of those trailers.
Trippy, mind-bending, mind-blowing, as well as boggling, the recently unveiled trailer for the film is simply superb, conveying the essence and sheer quality of David Mitchell‘s critically acclaimed and best selling novel.
Cloud Atlas stars two time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, Academy Award history maker Halle Berry, esteemed veteran Jim Broadbent, the classy Susan Sarandon, and a whole host of winsome actors like Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess and the promising quartet of James D’arcy, Zhu Zhu, Xun Zhou and David Gyasi.
Though teeming with an impressive cast of performers, the film’s biggest draws are:
a) Its directors.
b) The novel it’s based on.
Directed by the Wachowskis – the very same revolutionary filmmakers who dazzled the world with The Matrix trilogy, Cloud Atlas is the big budget film adaptation of David Mitchell‘s celebrated 2004 novel of the same name.
A best seller, Cloud Atlas comes with a massive following, presenting the Wachowski’s the monumental task of translating the success and effectiveness of the novel to the big screen.
The film, as with the novel, takes a transcendental look at how people’s lives and actions affect others in the past, present and future; weaving a fantastical narrative of stories, plots and events that influence people and periods centuries apart. Heady but wondrous stuff.
Although too early to call on whether the Wachowski’s have struck Matrix-esque gold with Cloud Atlas, judging by the sheer quality of the movie’s first trailer, the Hollywood siblings may just be onto something.
Just watch. You’ll find yourself enjoying the view from cloud nine after doing so.

Pretty sure the Wachowski brothers are no longer going by “the Wachowski brothers” since Larry became Lana.
