Popular basketball video game franchise NBA 2K has made a pair of welcome announcements today. In addition to revealing the release date (mark October 2nd on your calendar, folks) for the much anticipated forthcoming NBA 2K13 title, it has been announced that none other than Jay-Z will executive produce the game.
To coincide with the news, Hov’s Life + Times webzine released the trailer below, which sees past and present NBA stars, including Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin, do what they do best to a soundtrack of The Black Album banger, “Public Service Announcement.” The partnership comes as the second foray into basketball for Jay, who is currently a partial owner of the newly-relocated Brooklyn Nets (formerly New Jersey Nets).
As 2K Sports’ franchise looks to be progressing in leaps and bounds, its competitor, EA Sports’ NBA Live series is expected to make a comeback for the 2012-13 season. The game had been renamed to NBA Elite for its 2011 installment, but despite its initial release, was later cancelled. The 2012 edition was also shelved.
