Ever since Rockstar released the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto IV back in 2008, fans and critics have wondered what direction Grand Theft Auto V would take the highly controversial and successful series in. Apart from a short trailer released just over a year ago that showed the setting of Los Santos, previously seen in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and a handful of images released by Rockstar in recent months information has been scarce, up until last week when Game Informer released an 18-page cover story detailing specifics about the game that nobody could have seen coming, leading to widespread excitement all over the Internet. In addition to the free-roaming, gun-toting, sandbox gameplay the series is known for, the game features three main protagonists, Trevor, Franklin and Michael, each playable in real time, meaning that when you’re not playing as a character their life will still continue as normal so that when you choose to switch back to them you may find yourself in the middle of a gunfight, or driving someone to an important location.
As if that wasn’t enough to digest, the article described missions, activities, vehicles, weapons and the location, in great depth. Alongside the article Rockstar planned to release the second trailer, but after such plans were delayed due to Hurricane Sandy fans were left hoping that it would be released soon.
Thankfully that day has come, and the trailer provides a first look at the three lead characters and their lives, coupled with some of the insane occurrences that will take place in Los Santos, and “Skeletons” by Stevie Wonder as the soundtrack, aptly chosen considering skeleton-filled closets in each character’s life. Grand Theft Auto V explodes on to home consoles in Spring 2013.
