In a move that absolutely no one saw coming, Lil’ Wayne announced on New York’s KissFM Thursday night (2/23) that YMCMB has signed rap/rock hybrid Limp Bizkit and may be signing R&B songstress Ashanti to their ever-expanding artist roster.
To be specific, Wayne said that the label is “always listening and looking at acts” and that he “just found out that Limp Bizkit signed to Cash Money” recently, indicating that he had little, if any, involvement in the signing.
Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst repeatedly confirmed this claim via his Twitter account and even accentuated a few tweets with the hashtag “#CMLB” for “Cash Money/Limp Bizkit.”
As for Ashanti, Wayne told host Lenny Green that he didn’t want to cross any boundaries with the label but that he “thinks” they’re working out a deal with the former Murder Inc. chanteuse.
If this revelation came to pass it would come as little surprise considering Cash Money’s ambitious goal of dominating musical genres other than HipHop.
“We dominate rap, but we need to dominate R&B. We need to dominate pop, gospel, country – we’re a brand, so we should be able to put out all these different types of music,” label CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams recently told Billboard for their Power 100 issue.
With a diverse roster that already boasts acts like singer Jay Sean, keyboardist/vocalist PJ Morton (son of gospel artist Bishop Paul S. Morton), and now Limp Bizkit, Cash Money is obviously very serious about reaching their goal.
