After his tour bus exploded last week, DJ Khaled told us that he was gonna go even harder than he had before. It seems the first instance of that increased grinding has already manifested itself, as Cash Money CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams revealed to MTV that the Miami-based DJ/artist/executive has moved his We The Best Music Group brand to the house that “bling” built (or the house that built “bling,” whichever you prefer).
“I’d like to let the world know that Khaled’s brand, which is We the Best, is officially signed to YMCMB,” Stunna told MTV personality Sway Calloway. “I always wanted to have a chance to work with Ace Hood.”
While the We The Best roster features five acts — Khaled, Hood, MCs Red Rum and Nino Brown and reggae star Mavado — Hood is the only one mentioned during the MTV sitdown, leaving questions as to what role the other acts will play on the label’s new home.
“I think Ace Hood is a superstar,” Birdman continued. “I love his work ethic, I think he’s a very talented young man and he gonna be a big superstar in this business and I wanted to be the one to help him become that. It was important to me.
“When you got a young man with that kind of focus, you never know how far he can go in this business,” he added.
We The Best Music Group was initially under the Def Jam umbrella. Cash Money and Def Jam are both owned by Universal, but it is currently unknown what role, if any, Def Jam will play in this new deal.
