US music sales on the increase for first time in 7 years | Music News

For the first time since 2004 U.S. music album sales grew in the first six months of 2011 from a year ago, according to tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan due to rising sales of digital tracks and albums. Overall album sales rose nearly four percent to 221.5 million units, from 213.6 million compared to year ago which includes CD sales.

The top-selling album was Adele‘s 21, with 2.5 million albums sold, with Lady Gaga‘s Born This Way coming second with 1.5 million albums, which is most likely down to to a promotion on online shop Amazon.com that sold her album for 99 cents.
