Hip-hop is not renowned for respecting its elders, however disparaging the younger generation may view the old school – one thing is for sure; they should watch rappers from the ’80s still touring & take notes on how to perform live. A great opportunity for this presents itself with Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie, widely regarded as two of the best MCs/performers to ever do it – coming to London’s HMV Forum on 22nd June.
Veteran hip-hop heads will also rejoice at the sight of two Juice Crew members onstage together performing hip-hop classics such as “Jus Rhyming With Biz”, “Raw” and “Just A Friend”.
Big Daddy Kane is the original slick-talking playa and battle hardened lyricist with an impeccable flow that has influenced a whole generation of rappers – especially fellow Brooklyn emcees Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z, who toured with Kane early in his career.
Biz Markie made his mark as a charismatic beat boxer/MC with a goofy sense of humour that earned him the title “clown prince of hip-hop” during the late ’80s. His eccentric and likeable personality would inspire characters such as ODB to add an entertaining and unpredictable edge to the game.
When the legendary Juice Crew went their separate ways during the ’90s, Kane and Biz continued to record as solo artists and their formidable live shows are still in demand across the globe. Anyone itching for hip-hop nostalgia or are newcomers curious to hear two household names live need look no further than this night.
