East London venue The Book Club will be host to graphic designer and artist Dio Lau‘s first solo show beginning Thursday May 24. The exhibition sees Lau’s work which, beginning from an inherently gruesome starting point – namely distorted and disturbed heads and body parts – turned into something beautiful.
Titled “Confession in Water,” the work sees the artist frequently take the body parts and crop, merge and mesh them into the final printed murals, digital collages, prints and illustrations.
Lau’s work is often with the intent of creating an overall feel of “contradicting states of calmness and unrest,” which Book Club describe as “an attempt to pursue the notion of art, as the science of freedom. Through it, he explores how to induce an alternative state of awareness.”
Confession in Water is on show May 24 – July 7 at The Book Club [100-106 Leonard Street, London EC2A].
