BBC Radio 1′s Hackney Weekend 2012 just got a whole lot cooler.
Bloomberg Businessweek reports that Rihanna has been added as a headlining act alongside Jay-Z for this year’s edition of the popular London music festival.
The two superstars will top an already star-studded lineup including will.i.am, Florence & The Machine, David Guetta, Leona Lewis, Wretch 32, Lana Del Rey, Tinie Tempah, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Professor Green, D’Banj, Deadmau5, Dappy, Trey Songz, B.o.B and many more spread across six stages, making this a weekend like none other and a perfect start to the larger London 2012 Festival.
At a news conference held yesterday, organizers of the Olympic cultural festival said that Hackney Weekend will be part of a series of diverse arts and entertainment events popping up all over Britain around the 2012 Games.
Beginning June 21, London 2012 Festival events will cover the realms of dance, theatre and performance, books, film, fashion, food and much more — a little bit of everything to accommodate the legions of British residents and visiting Olympic revelers.
“There will be absolutely something for everyone: from Beethoven to Jay-Z, from Shakespeare to [director] Mike Leigh,” said Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
“The London 2012 Festival will be the biggest cultural celebration in our lifetime,” added Royal Opera House Chief Executive Tony Hall, chairman of the Cultural Olympiad board.
The festival will run from June 21 to September 9. Hackney Weekend will be held June 23-24 at Hackney Marshes, London. The 2012 Summer Olympic Games will run from July 27 to August 12.
