Lil B lectures at NYU: “Don’t ever deny those voices in your head” [Full Audio + Video]

When news broke that Lil’ B would be lecturing at New York University, a lot of us were dumbfounded. Perplexed. Befuddled. Confounded. Stupefied, even. We just couldn’t imagine what The Based God would have to offer anyone at a university, and the very speculation on what would transpire at this (hopefully) once-in-a-lifetime event simply threw gasoline on the the flames of curosity and confusion, creating a blazing inferno of interest.

OK, maybe that’s a tad dramatic. We really did want to know what would go down, though, but we didn’t get our press creds in time to make it. Fortunately, Pitchfork and an enterprising YouTuber named “r0b0hobo” were in NYU’s Kimmel Center last night (April 11) and ended the speculation with, respectively, a full report on and several video clips of what, exactly, The Based God was cookin’ (dance).

Lil’ B took the stage rocking a snug, neon green tee and matching scarf (’cause, you know, B’s a “pretty bitch“), a tight pair of jeans that still managed to hang low enough to show his red boxers, and what seem to be his trademark pair of oh-so-fucked-up green Vans and addressed the Kimmel Center’s sold-out house on a number of topics including the decline of humanity, paying taxes, hydraulic fracturing or “fracking” (“I’m like whodie, get that oil out the ocean!“) and other heavy issues.

Conversely, the rapper also discussed the ants in his home (“It’s like man, they have their own communities too. I’m there with them.“), an upcoming rock album (“This one’s for the rebels. Look out for the Lil B rock record, California Boy.”), his pet ownership (“I’m the first rapper to adopt a tabby cat.“) and other convoluted-yet-familiar acts of Based Godliness (“I’m out here trying to get my Mitt Romney on.“; “Don’t ever deny those voices in your head.“).

It’s hard to tell from either the reports or the series of clips what, exactly, the point of Lil’ B’s speech was. He seemed to talk — at length — about absolutely nothing in particular. Basically, the Lil’ B lecture seems to have done nothing to quell any of the confusion surrounding the Lil’ B lecture. It actually kind of intensified it.

Then again, maybe it was one of those “you had to be there”-type of things, ’cause many of those in attendance were praising The Based God like crazy afterwards:

When you’re super positive (as Lil’ B most certainly is), I guess the fact that you’re inarticulate and hard to understand doesn’t matter.

Plus, if the fans were satisfied and the university feels they put on a successful event, I guess the mission was accomplished. Who cares what anyone else (including this writer) thinks.
