Bronx, New York Soul singer Rahsaan Patterson heads to the UK to perform live at London’s Scala on September 23rd.
Having begun in entertainment with a role as “The Kid” in ’80s tv show Kids Incorporated, Rahsaan began his musical career singing backup and writing for other artists – the likes of Brandy and Tevin Campbell – before signing to MCA Records and releasing his self-titled debut album in 1997.
15 years on, with a loyal international following and five albums under his belt, his latest LP Bleuphoria was released in 2011 through jazz label Artistry Music, featuring collaborations with Jody Watley, Faith Evans and Lalah Hathaway, who featured on the single “6 AM.”
An exquisitely voiced performer, fans shouldn’t take the opportunity to catch Rahsaan live for granted as he may well be stepping away from music in the near future, if his recent tweets are anything to go by.
“2 be frank. After 28 years of recording and performing music….A leave of absence is in order. I got about 1 or 2 more in me..” he announced on Twitter just days ago, on July 20.
He continued, “Then I’m off to the other side. It will always be lyrical…..and will always be art. this chapter is coming to a close. I can feel it. And I gotta go with it. It won’t be easy…but my life has never been…”
Supporting Rahsaan on the night will be UK Electro-Soul duo Diva Geek. Consisting of singer-songwriter Vula Malinga and multi-instrumentalist and producer Ben Jones, the duo started working together in 2006 on Vula’s solo project If You Want It. Six years later the duo joined together under the name Diva Geek to release their debut album, He Said, She Said, in April [read our review here].
