Saturday 14th July sees the official screening of feature-length film The Heatwave Presents Showtime: The Bashment Stage Show at Willesden Green Library Cinema as part of the British Black Music Film All-Dayer.
Rollo Jackson in association with UK’s leading bashment sound system The Heatwave captures the magical live performances and takes us behind the livest night, bringing in-depth interviews with pioneers of the UK underground music scene like grime’s elusive godfather Wiley, UK dancehall’s Glamma Kid, fast-spitting Jungle chatter Skibadee and UK garage femcee Stush rotating the microphone with new skool acts like Stylo G and Lady Leshurr.
Showtime is a must-see documentary of UK music culture and a vital piece of oral history, telling a story which is often forgotten or misrepresented by the mainstream and tracing the influence of dancehall on UK rave culture.
The screening is followed by a Q&A discussion with a panel composed of:
> Mr. Williamz (performer)
> Rollo Jackson (director)
> Paul Gilroy (LSE) // Acclaimed author of Ain’t No Black In The Union Jack and The Black Atlantic
> Mykaell Riley (University of Westminster) // Former member of Grammy-winning UK reggae band Steel Pulse
