According to multiple sources, Blake Fielder-Civil, the ex-husband of late R&B singer Amy Winehouse, was rushed to a West Yorkshire hospital with multiple organ failure the morning after an alleged binge on booze and possibly heroin.
Fielder-Civil’s girlfriend Sarah Aspin found the 30-year-old in bed choking on his own vomit hours after he’d staggered home “slurring his words” following an afternoon drinking session with a friend, according to The Sun.
“I went to get up and heard a horrid scratching and grating breathing sound. I looked round and saw Blake lying there completely grey,” Aspin, 34, told the paper. “His eyes were rolled back and his mouth was locked together.”
Aspin, who has a year-old child with Fielder-Civil, said she immediately called paramedics, who arrived and said he had swallowed his tongue, choked on his own vomit and that his left lung wasn’t working, according to The Sun.
He is currently in a medically-induced coma and on life support. Doctors reportedly are not ruling out the possibility of permanent brain damage.
“The doctors say they don’t know the prognosis,” Aspin said. “They said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection. I’m praying he’ll survive, but I’m having to prepare myself that he may never wake up.”
Fielder-Civil has had a long battle with heroin addiction, but had recently “been doing so well,” Aspin said, that his coming home under the influence made her “very angry.” He was released from jail two weeks ago after being arrested for possessing stolen goods and a fake gun, and had gone out drinking after an afternoon meeting with his probation officer.
He and Winehouse were married two years before splitting in 2009.
