In a move that will shock many, Beenie Man issues a statement regarding his homophobic lyrics from the past, and his respect for all regardless of creed, colour or sexual preference.
For years now the self-proclaimed king of dancehall has been hounded and threatened with show cancellations for lyrics over a decade old, despite numerous apologies and clarifications up to four years ago and his signing of the reggae compassionate act.
During the 1:35min video [below] the Grammy Award winner insists, “I respect all human beings, including gay and lesbian,” apologises for mistakes he made in the past, explains he was just a guy in a community with little idea of the wider world and asks for us all to move forward.
For the record, this was uploaded on the same day as the Jay-Z one, so I don’t think he did it following Jay-Z, like many of the rest have.
Catch Beenie Man alongside many other artists including Morgan Heritage, Beres Hammond, Sly & Robbie and many more at Rototom Sunsplash.
