Since the demise of Megaupload popular file-hosting service RapidShare has taken the threat of piracy with heightened seriousness.
The company’s latest move, set to go into full effect on November 27, will see free users limited to sharing just one gigabyte of data per day, while paid users will be allowed to share up to 30 gigabytes to the public. These limits don’t apply to files shared with select contacts or groups, as the public cannot access them, as TorrentFreak reports.
RapidShare CEO Alexandra Zwingli said: “We are constantly looking to improve our services, and at the same time prevent copyright infringements.The main challenge of implementing general changes to the service is meeting both goals without compromising the user experience. The new model is a solution that will avoid abuse of RapidShare while ensuring that the average user will not be affected.”
The new change replaces the download speed limit that was imposed on free users back in February.
