Whilst in Montreal last night to finish his Canada is Finally Famous tour, Big Sean had some exclusive news for his fans. After the success of his Detroit mixtape and his starring role on G.O.O.D Music’s Cruel Summer, Sean announced, live on his stage, that his new album will be called Hall of Fame: Memoirs of a Detroit Player.
Sean also took the chance to share a bit of wisdom with fans, following his announcement with the short mission statement: “We all strive to be the best. If you don’t do it to be the best, I don’t know why the fuck you do it.”
Hall of Fame, which drops some time in December, is the follow-up to Sean’s 2011 debut Finally Famous. The rapper made it clear that the purpose of his latest mixtape Detroit was to prepare the ground for this album and with generally favourable reviews, the timing of this announcement couldn’t be better.
The album’s title seems to fit with Big Sean’s general attachment to his home-town. In the video below, which shows Sean both in the middle of a performance and backstage, he tells an interviewer that, “Detroit made me. Raised me… made me a man.”
