G.O.O.D Music’s Cruel Summer compilation has been out for a little over a week, hitting the Billboard 200 at No. 2 this week preceded by Pink‘s latest release, The Truth About Love, at the top slot.
Considering the mixed bag of reviews the project received, it’s a decent position for the G.O.O.D Music camp who sold 216,115 units upon debut, far exceeding the projected 170-190k estimated.
Though the numbers trump many high profile releases we’ve had this year including 2 Chainz‘ first Def Jam release, which racked in first week sales of 147,000, and Maybach Music Group’s compilation which managed just 98,000.
With that said, Cruel Summer‘s numbers do pale in comparison to G.O.O.D Music frontman Kanye West‘s prior projects; namely his collaborative project with Jay Z, Watch The Throne, which racked in 436,000 sales in the first week, and his last solo album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy which managed an impressive 496,000.
