As previously reported, MTV recently announced plans to launch a Hip-Hop based talk show called Hip-Hop POV which aims to be a platform for honest talks and discussions on current music news and issues. Last night (April 12) saw the show’s first airing with performances from 2 Chainz, an exclusive interview with Lil’ Wayne and talks on Nicki Minaj‘s new album.
Hosts Amanda Seales, Bu Thiam, Charlamagne Tha God, Devi Dev and Sowmya Krishnamurthy kicked off the show discussing Nicki Minaj’s album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, with some giving an honest critique while others (cough*Charlamagne*cough) stayed biased, possibly due to the fact that one of the hosts is featured on the album’s deluxe version with an exclusive interview with Minaj.
Within seconds, Charlamagne flipped back to being the painfully funny and honest radio host we’re familiar with, speaking on Kanye West and Kim Kardashian‘s recent string of dates. Kanye’s reference to falling in love with Kim along with what he wanted to do to Kris Humphries on “Theraflu” was enough to get Charlamagne to go off on one.
“The one line where he said ‘I woulda had Jay-Z fire Kris Humphires from the Nets’ – that’s a sucker move,” Charlamagne said before going on to explain exactly why he felt so. “You fell in love with a hoe, the hoe fell in love with somebody else which is Kris Humphries, so you can’t catch feelings. … She’s a smut!”
Well damn, tell us what you really feel.
The rest of the show wasn’t as explosive, but did deliver on the exclusive footage the show promised it would bring. Clips from behind the scenes of Akon and French Montana‘s “Hurt Somebody” video shoot along with a short interview with the pair was shown, as well as another exclusive interview between Amanda Seales and Lil’ Wayne, who discussed everything from the MC’s Trukfit clothing label to upcoming music project, Devol, to his new Cash Money deal.
The show ended with an interview with hot new rapper, 2 Chainz, who also took the stage to perform “Spend It” and “Riot.” So far, so good for MTV’s new show.
