J.Cole was nominated for a couple of awards at last night’s AMA’s and Billboard managed to catch up with him on the Red Carpet to ask a few choice questions about his new single “Miss America” and forthcoming sophomore album Born Sinner.
The Roc Nation rapper, dressed in a smart, wine-coloured blazer, spoke at length about both subjects. He said that the decision to release “Miss America” over more radio-friendly offerings was aimed at “shifting the culture”, before describing the track as an “aggressive, straight rap record” and comparing it to his breakthrough hit “Who Dat.”
Cole went on to reveal some lofty ambitions for his Born Sinner. He said that the album will try to tackle the theme of corruption and revealed that he hopes to accompany its release with the release of a short film. From what I’ve seen and heard, it’s shaping up to be a highly thought-provoking project. Watch the full interview below.
