Jennifer Hudson opens up about family, life and loss on Oprah’s Next Chapter | TV Catch-Up

M. Gosho Oakes September 11, 2012 Music, TV Comments

Exploring her journey of “breathtaking highs and unthinkable loss,” R&B star Jennifer Hudson is the latest to invite the iconic Oprah Winfrey to her home and share her story on Oprah’s Next Chapter.

The 30 year old Chicago native discusses American Idol and her experiences of being viewed as “the big girl in Hollywood” following her success starring in the film Dreamgirls; her new clothing line; and joined briefly by her fiance, professional wrestler David Otunga, the couple discuss their relationship, plans to wed and have more children.

But of course the dominant subject of the 40-minute show is the tragic murder in 2008 of Hudson’s mother, brother and seven year old nephew, who would have turned 11 on the day the interview took place.

With her sister Julia joining Jennifer on the couch for the emotional conversation, she opens up about dealing with her losses, killer William Balfour’s trial and moving forward together as a family.

Divulging some thoughtful and mature perspectives on difficult subjects, you can watch the full episode below.
