Riding the wave of his debut album good kid, m.A.A.d. city, which was released Monday Oct. 22nd, Compton lyricist Kendrick Lamar took to the stage of a Best Buy in New York City with fellow TDE member Jay Rock to perform “Money Trees,” much to the delight of the huge crowd packed inside.

The song combines Lamar and Jay Rock’s West Coast upbringing with distorted voices, humming organ and haunting synths reminiscent of Atlanta duo Outkast‘s 1998 album Aquemini. Despite the album dropping only days ago, the crowd can be heard emphatically singing along with the complex but memorable chorus, proclaiming in prophetic fashion that “the one that’s in front of the gun lives forever.” Watch below.

Kendrick’s major label debut, good kid, m.A.A.d city is out now through Top Dawg Ent, Aftermath and Interscope.
