It was barely a fortnight ago when Lil Wayne announced the fourth installment in his popular Dedication mixtape series, but the Young Money head got on the phone with the Gangsta Grillz officiator DJ Drama to discuss the new project in more detail.
“Mentally, when I’m doing an album and I’m doing a song, I stay on subject, I make sure that I’m saying things in the song that you don’t even have to be thinking the song and you can repeat those things and they can still make a lot of sense. I put all that type of though into making a song when it comes to an album,” he explained of his creative process when crafting an album, before detailing how making a mixtape differs.
“When it comes to making a mixtape, there’s not half of that though, I just go for whatever comes to my mind and make it make sense, and that’s how it goes.”
In the discussion, Wayne also listed his favourite mixtapes (SQ6, No Ceilings and Dedication 2), recited a phone call he had with Jay-Z as a teenager, spoke on his friendship with 2 Chainz, and more. Listen to the full interview below.
