Over the years MTV has changed from being a revolutionary and influential music channel to, well, is it fair to say a platform for reality TV shows? Either way, MTV are now getting back to the music by introducing a new late night talk show called MTV’s Hip Hop P.O.V.
The show will be a forum for leading members in the hip hop music industry to voice their opinions and have discussions on weekly talking points, as well as have performances. Panelists include the always candid Charlamagne Tha God from The Breakfast Club radio show (his honest opinions alone will probably be a highlight of the show), Hip Hop journalist Sowmya Krishnamurthy, radio host Devi Dev and Def Jam A&R Bu Thaim.
Amy Doyle, the EVP of Music and Talent Strategy, says in a press release; “MTV’s Hip-Hop P.O.V is an exciting, new weekly platform that shines the spotlight on the pulse of what’s relevant to Hip Hop fans, giving our audience an authentic perspective on the artists, celebs and topics they love. With its dominance of the music charts, global impact and cultural influence, we wanted to find a way to harness the passion that MTV viewers have for Hip Hop culture and provide its latest and greatest stars and personalities with a brand new stage here at MTV.”
The show is due to premiere April 4th at midnight EST right after America’s Best Dance Crew.
