MTV Video Music Awards 2012 performances + winners list

Last night (Thursday, September 6th) the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart.
The Young Money Cash Money Billionaires took the title as the only Hip Hop artists this year to take home awards at the MTV VMAs – leaving G.O.O.D Music, The Throne and Childish Gambino to go home empty handed. YMCMB princess Nicki Minaj beat Rihanna, Katy Perry and Beyonce to the top spot to take home the Best Female Video for “Starships” whilst Canadian rapper Drake, who was up for five awards, took home the award for Best Hip-Hop Video with “HYFR” featuring fellow label mate Lil’ Wayne who took to the stage to perform with 2 Chainz in his first ever VMA performance.

R&B/Pop singer Rihanna took to the stage alongside A$ap Rocky sporting a new haircut took home one out of five nominated awards for “We Found Love” that beat Drake‘s “Take Care” and M.I.A‘s “Bad Girls” for Video Of The Year.

M.I.A may have lost out to the Video Of The Year award but that didn’t stop her from taking awards home. The Roc Nation-signed singer won both the Best Cinematograph and Best Direction award for the “Bad Girls” visual. Commended for his own creative visual work on the night was R&B singer Chris Brown who took home
the awards for Best Male Video and Best Choreography for his video “Turn Up The Music” from his most recent album Fortune.

Best Art Direction: Katy Perry – “Wide Awake”
Best Direction: M.I.A. – “Bad Girls”
