“Empire State of Mind,” Jay-Z‘s chart-topping Blueprint 3 single featuring Alicia Keys, has topped five million digital sales, officially making it the most successful song of both artists’ storied careers.
According to Yahoo Music, the anthemic tribute to the Big Apple reached the milestone this week. It bumps Rihanna‘s “Umbrella,” on which Jay-Z is featured, to No. 2 on the rapper’s best-selling singles list with sales of 4,089,000; while Keys’ “No One,” which has sold 3,705,000 copies, becomes her second-best seller.
On its way to quintuple-platinum status, “Empire State of Mind” won Grammys for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song in 2011 and was an international hit, topping U.S. charts and reaching the top 5 in the UK, Canada, Australia, Belgium and Portugal.
