Just earlier this week, Big Sean revealed he has a new mixtape – his first since 2010′s Finally Famous Vol. 3: BIG – entitled Detroit on the horizon via a slick visual trailer. The details on the project are coming in quick, as the G.O.O.D. Music rapper has revealed to Hip-Hop Wired that J. Cole, Chris Brown, Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa are among the guests to appear on his upcoming tape.
“We’ve got a lot of good people on there. The mixtape has J. Cole, Chris Brown, Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa, you know, good ass features,” he said.
In the interview, Sean also detailed some of the politics that came into play with the release of both his debut album, Finally Famous, last year, and this new mixtape, and spoke on the creative differences between both records.
“The only reason why I haven’t put [the mixtape] out yet is because I just didn’t want to put anything on there that we really could have used on the album,” he explained. “I wanted to be comfortable with every single thing. That was the only hold up.”
He added, “It’s just completely different from the album. The album is just that step up for real. Mixtape shit, you don’t have to worry about samples, you don’t have to worry about continuity, it’s really about just having fun.”
Detroit is scheduled to drop September 5th, just before the long-awaited G.O.O.D. Music album, Cruel Summer, hits shelves on September 18th. Big Sean added that fans should look out for visual material from his mixtape to arrive soon.
