Members of The xx each have their individual talents, DJ, producer and remix artist Jamie Smith looks to extend his by not just creating some new music, but also by creating his own instrument.

The revelation was made during the London-based band’s interview with The Observer during during which they discussed their future plans in music. The avid MPC machine user wants to create an instrument similar to the device that incorporates elements of the iPad to form a new device currently described as “iPad-like and see-through, colourful graphics conjured with the same finger taps that make his music.”

In the midst of preparing for the release of their sophomore album Coexist, lead singer Romy Madley Croft says she’s clear on what’s in store in the future: “Right now I can see what I’m doing until next year, and during that time there’s no room for disasters, or life, or anything else like that to happen.”
