The video for Azealia Banks‘ 1991 track “Liquorice” that dropped last month wasn’t the only one she shot. Apparently, that one is the re-shot visual, as the video purported to be the original surfaced today.
The so-called “alternative” version (I think whoever uploaded it meant to say “alternate,” but whatever) is less cinematic and less Wild-Wild-West than the Rankin-directed official version, with Banks only spending about half the time in the company of a horse (with a look that’s much more jockey than cowgirl) and the rest on a Parisian promenade. How she got from a horse stable to the City of Light and what the two have to do with each other is unknown, and that’s probably why they opted for the second version. That and the fact that the whole kaleidoscope shit is just corny.
This video isn’t bad per se, it’s just not as good as the official version. I think Ms. Banks made the right choice on which to put out.
