Devlin f/ Diane Birch – “Rewind” | Music Video

Devlin reflects on friends lost (but not forgotten) in the visual for his new single “Rewind“, a pan-Atlantic collaboration with U.S singer-songwriter Diane Birch.

The third release from his forthcoming sophomore album A Moving Picture, “Rewind” sees The Movement’s Dagenham prodigy try to turn back the clock and revisit the past, and the video, which reminds me of Coldplay’s concept for “The Scientist”, tries to visualise this process. In the majority of the clip we see Devlin rapping from a modern day field of Elysium, trying to resurrect dead friends, and for the rest of it we roll backwards with Birch, delivering her maudlin chorus from a dark, seemingly ill-fated car.

The concept has certainly been done before, and I’m not convinced by the track itself, a mixture of a pop beat, dust-laden Southern vocals and aggressively-delivered (albeit undoubtedly sincere) rhymes, but it’s nonetheless a cleverly-conceived visual. Watch it for yourself below, and pre-order A Moving Picture (out in February 2013) here:
