El-P has been behind some of this year’s best rap songs and projects. First came R.A.P. Music, the stone-cold classic he produced for Killer Mike; then Cancer 4 Cure, the dark musical gem he produced and rapped on himself. Neither disappointed, but El-P didn’t stop there. Only the other day the New Yorker conjured up a shuddering banger of a beat for Mr MFN eXquire and Gucci Mane to wreak lyrical havoc on, and the music just keeps on coming.
Here’s a dope set of visuals for “Stay Down,” one of the strongest tracks from El-P’s solo album. The video shows P performing alongside Jaleel Bunton (of TV On The Radio, stepping in for Nick Diamonds and channelling his best Hendrix impression) at a euphoric live show. Under the glare of obsessive fans and bright lights (captured in scary slow-motion), the pair whip up a frenzy amongst the audience, to the extent that the not-so-innocent bloody of a certain furry animal is spilt (RIP Mr Killums?).
Whilst we don’t condone obsessive audiences and violence towards fluffy squirrels, this is a killer video. Watch it for yourself below:
