I’d liked to have seen Nicki Minaj tone it down a bit for the video to “Freedom“, one of the new tracks from her upcoming album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded- The Re-Up, but some behind the scenes footage suggest she’s firmly ensconced in the pop princess lane.
The clip below shows Nicki struggling to deal with the wet and windy realities of freedom, carried around by what I can only describe as a saintly team of well-wishers, whose faithful pandering to the starlet makes the whole idea of liberation a bit of a joke. The actual filming seems to capture her in one of her slightly less ridiculous (although no less impractical) dresses, surrounded by blue smoke in a lush English field, but I can’t help thinking that this is some sort of parody documentary about what it means to be a Nicki Minaj in 2012. In that respect, it’s quite entertaining, not least when a female member of her entourage falls over and they wind the footage back.
